On 17th April, 2016/11 Rajab ul-Murajjab 1437, Sunday, by the Du’aa Mubaarak of Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna saheb (TUS), at-Taiyebaat committee organized a Conclave on Health, Nutrition & Good Lifestyle along with a Healthy Snacks Cooking Competition at Rabaab Hall, Zenith School, Dabhoi Road, Pratapnagar, Vadodara. This event was open for all communities.  World Health Week was celebrated at this event and this year’s theme - Beat Diabetes.

The event began with the Cooking Competition, adjudged by Ms. Shweta Nagdev, Ms. Hemangini Gandhi (renowned dietician & nutritionist) & Mr. Jaspal Singh Rawat (Head Chef, Surya Palace). The competition had separate arrangements for Veg. and Non-veg. snacks prepared by participants at home and presented at the venue. The contestants made tasty and delectable items and were evaluated on the basis of presentation of the food, its nutritive content & methodology of preparation.

Following the judgment round, participants proceeded to attend the Talk by two renowned speakers – Dr. Ruhi Shah (Physiotherapist, Specialist in Orthopedic Medicine) & Dr. Hemangini Gandhi (Nutritionist, Social Activist, Dietician). The event was graced by Saiyedi Mukaasir Saheb (dm),  Ra’s ul-Hudood Saheb (zi). After the welcome & introduction by Bu Saahebah Shafe’ahbu, Dr Ruhi Shah spoke on the following:

  • Importance of physical exercise in daily life
  • Meaning of fitness
  • Good posture
  • Routine Exercise
  • Do’s & Don’ts of exercise
  • How to beat Diabetes
  • Optimal timings of exercise & meals

She stressed on the point that,

“The Fitness stands on flexibility, strength and balance.  You should always take time to have a exercise as per your physical needs.  Going to gym is not necessary but simply walking outside your home will suffice to your daily strength and health.”

The floor was then open for questions & answers.  After this first discussion, prize distribution for the winners of Healthy Snacks Cooking Competition was held.  Among the 14 participants, Ms. Ruhi Gandhi won first prize for her Non-veg. dish “Fish Kebabs with Sprouts Salad”.  Among Veg. participants, Jumanah Bandukwala won first prize for “Mong Sprout Potato Cutlet”.
Other participants with innovative dishes were also appreciated.
After this, Ms. Hemangini Gandhi spoke on:

  • Nutrition
  • BMI
  • Diabetes

She said that,

“Our forefathers have set for us a beautiful regime of balanced diet.  For years together we are following our healthy food habits developed on our ancestral traditions.  But today’s westernization has taken its toll on our intake and food pattern.  Shun all processed foods, packed foods, soft drinks, fast food, junk food to maintain your good health.  We are always attracted towards its taste and availability but we little think about its hazards and health risks.”


Mukaasir ud-Da’wat Saiyedi saheb (dm) made a clear statement that,

“Our daily Namaaz is the best example of exercise, concentration and balance.  It’s the straight way to get connected with the world above you and this Spiritual power has a overwhelming effect both mentally and physically.  You should do Shukr that you are healthy today, because sickness is bound to come.  You should do Shukr that you are alive today, because death is always advancing towards you.  This health and life is the best ne’mat of Khudaa Ta’aala.”
