With the Grace of Allaah and Du’a-e-Masoor of Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna saheb (tus), it was for the first event or gathering in our Jamaa’at that young boys and girls seeking their counterparts – life partners, gathered in one roof at Zenith High School on 7th Zulqa’adat il-Haraam 1430/25th October 2009, Sunday. It was a new experience too for Anjuman-e-Tanzeem-e-Millat-e-Taiyebiyah – the committee which organized the event. Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) had a wish since long time that an engagement program should be organized for our youth so that they get an opportunity to chose their better-halves from our community. Under the overwhelming influence of electronic communication and connectivity, our youth are easily affected by the cultural diversity and get diverted from the Bohra doctrines. Important decisions taken under such transient elation and euphoria often ruin their life. Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) expressed a deep concern in one of his Taqreer that, “Our young boys and girls are giving up their hopes in finding a good partner from our community and they are opting for getting married to someone from other community. The only solution to remove this stigma is to make everyone aware that there are young boys and girls in our community who are educated and well settled and who can become a good partner for their counterparts.” He conceded that, “Our mumenaat are trying hard to keep the marriages within our community but this all is at a personal level. It is the need of time that we should organize a gathering where all the young boys and girls, along with their parents, participate so that they know each other – their scopes and limitations.

The members of Anjuman-e-Tanzeem-e-Millat-e-Taiyebiyah were sensitive enough to perceive the seriousness of the message of Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) and they took up this task and made a revolutionary attempt to bring about a change. It’s a tradition, not known where it came from, that the proposal of engagement should be sent from boy to a girl! At the beginning of the Engagement Programme, Maazoon Saheb (dm) in his inaugural speech clarified that, “These dogmas must be shed off from our minds. He recollected the time of Rasoolullaah (saws) when he called upon Maulaana Ali (as) and expressed his willingness to marry her daughter Maulaatona Faatema (as) to him. It was a command from Allaah upon Rasoolullaah (saws) for the marriage of Maulaana Ali (as) and Maulaatona Faatema (as).” Maazoon Saheb (dm) said that, Proposals from either side are equally acceptable. He also said that, “This gathering is an opportunity for all of us to know each other and our youth. It will have a long lasting impact and will also help us in the future. Our efforts should not end with this program and we should not get depressed and low spirited if we don’t succeed in this event. Our failures should become pillars of our future planning. We all have gathered here to promulgate and obey the Sunnat of Rasoolullaah (saws).”  He concluded his speech by conveying Mubaarak baadi to all the mumineen on the behalf of Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus).

The program began by narrating the bio-data of the boys. 90 boys and 40 girls participated in the event. Girls were given an opportunity to put their selection on the given card. After that, the counsellors on both the sides analysed the entries. After a short discussion, meeting of the selected boys and girls was arranged separately. At the end of the program we had 3 successful couples who proposed to get engaged. The program was concluded by issuing certificates to the successful couples by Mukaasir ud-Da’wat (dm) who greeted the mumineen for their participation. He said that, “Insha Allaah we will organise such programs in future also, to facilitate the marriages in our community.”
