Maulaana Ali Ameer ul-Mumineen (as) asked Jaasliq, who was a Christian that, ‘After Musaa Nabi (as) how many factions were there among his people?’ He remained silent and later said; he will have to refer the book, Taurat. Maulaana Ali (as) said, "Alas! If your book perishes, will all your knowledge also go away with it? O Jaasliq! You better know that by Rasoolullaah (saws) I have the knowledge of the fact that there are in all 71 factions of Bani Israel, out of which 70 of them will go to Hell-Jahannum and only one group will go to Paradise-Jannat.
Thereafter Maulaana Ali ( a.s.) narrated the verse of Qur’an, "Wa min Qaum e Musaa Ummatun Yahduna Bil Haqqe Wabehi Ya’deloon", (7,159) which means there is only one community, amongst the various factions of Musaa's (as) community that follows the path of truth and righteousness. When Rasoolullaah (saws) arrived at Me’raaj , Jibra’el (as) introduced him to the community of Musaa (a.s). They were residing in the region behind China. Then Rasoolullaah (saws) performed the Tilaawat of 10 Meccan Surahs in front of those righteous people. The people of the community bowed down to Rasoolullaah (saws) in gratitude and accepted his religion of Islam. Previously they were the followers of Musaa Nabi's religion and as per the verses of Taurat they had been waiting for their last prophet. On meeting Rasoolullaah (saws), they wholeheartedly accepted the religion of truth and submission.”
“O Jaasliq! During the time after the nubuwat of Maulaana Isaa (as) there were 72 factions, out of whom 71 will go to Jahannum and only one will go to Jannat. It is said by Allaah Ta’aala in Qur’an and not by me, "Wa iza Yutla ‘Alayhim Qaalu Aamanna behi Innahul Haqqo Mirrabena Inna Kunna Min Qablehi Muslemeen", (28,53) which means when the aayats (verses) are being explained to the community of Isaa (as), they say that, 'Our Lord is on the right path and we had been Muslims from earlier times'.”
The teachings from the Qur’an are sufficient in order to get knowledge and wisdom. There are many believers of those holy books which were revealed before Qur’an and these aayaat-signs were clear indications about the arrival of the Last Prophet i.e. Mohammad Rasoolullaah (saws). They shall get double reward of this. Those people are able to delay hardships by enduring patience and by doing good deeds. They stay away from false virtue, hypocrisy and from blaming others, because they believe that there is peace and safety in doing so. In another aayat, there is a mention of those people who were the followers of Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his traditions but when Rasoolullaah (saws) became the prophet, and then these people unhesitantly accepted the religion of Islam, the final canonical divine law.
Saiyedna Ahmad Bin Mohammad An-Nishaburi who was the Da'i during the period of 15th Imaam Maulaana Nizaar al-‘Aziz (as) has mentioned in his book 'al- Mujizat ul Kaafiyah' about the factions who were on truth and waiting for the truth to come in form of the Seal of Prophethood i.e. Mohammad Rasoolullaah (saws). In the above mentioned aayat for the Jannati faction of Maulaana Isaa (as), all those people are inclusive who were Christians and who came from Habsha-Abyssinia to Madina along with Ja’far ut-Taiyaar (as) in his boat. Rafaa’ah Bin Kirtah tells that, he was one among those ten people from Habsha. All of them will get double reward because they not only performed deeds as per the Christian religion but also as per the present religion, meaning the Deen e Haqq of Mohammad (saws), Islam.
There were four prime qualities in those believers who were very close to their Lord because of their angelic characteristics. It was, 1. Keeping Patience, 2. Doing good while shunning evil, 3. Spending in the best possible manner, and 4. Refraining from unnecessary talks. Maulaana Imaam Ja’far us-Saadiq (as) used to say that in our era, these noble qualities are possessed by the progeny of Mohammad (saws) and their Shi’as. All of them observed patience and continued to strengthen their faith. They performed good deeds and rejected bad deeds.
Imaam says that, “Though we are Saaberoon (having highest level of patience), our Shi’as are even more patient than us. We endure patiently as we have the knowledge and wisdom of the cause of the adversity, enmity and hardships meted upon us by our opponents. But our Shi’as endure patience in such adversities whose reality is unknown to them, still they quietly tolerate it. They keep on doing good deeds but do not expect anything good in return, because they know that this world is full of evil stuff and deviling activities.”
Now, O Jaasliq! You must know that in the Ummat of Mohammed Rasoolullaah (saws) there will be total 73 factions, out of which 72 will go to Jahannum and only one will go to Jannat. This Jannati faction are my Shi’as and I. Allaah Ta’aala says that, "Wamimman Khalakna Ummatun Yahduna bil Haqqe Wabehi Ya’deloon", (7,181) which means that, There is only one community which follows the path of truth and justice from all my creations. Rasoolullaah (saws) says that, The 73rd faction is the only faction whose people will get Salvation, and it is known as ‘al-Firqat un-Naajiyah'.
“Ma Anaa ‘Alayhim Yauma Wa Ashaabi", which means it is me who is the right path and it is I and my followers who belong to the righteous faction. The essence of these words is that I am at the centre and my followers surround me and are attracted to me due to my divine status and sublime position. In the same way they will follow my beloved, the one who will take my position after me, my children will be the Imaam of Ummat. In every era, this tradition will be followed and that the faction who is with my progeny is ‘al-Firqat un-Naajiyah', whose leader is Maulaana Ali (as).”
Maulaana Imaam Jaf’ar us-Saadiq (as) states that, "Due to the obedience of the people of this one community all the rest of the people inflicted with envy and treachery call them atheist (Kaafir). Though these envious people might be having internal disputes but when it comes to making allegations against ‘al-Firqat un-Naajiyah', they speak unanimously, unitedly and univocally. I and my Shi’as belong to this particular community of Najaat."
We believe that, the propagation of Nass (divine appointment) which started from Mohammad Rasoolullaah (saws) will continue from father to son till the day of Qeyaamat. We belong to the 73rd faction called ‘al-Firqat un-Naajiyah'. The people of Jahannum shall search for us over there, considering us as atheist (Kaafir) but will not be able to find us. Allaah Ta’aala mentions in the Quran, "Those people in Jahannum will say that, What has happened? Why can't we find those men whom we considered as unreligious and bad (notorious) in the worldly life".
Imaam tells his Shi’as that, “Surely! You must be busy enjoying the pleasures of Jannat while those people in Jahannum who were making fun of all of us and were considering us worse, will fight among themselves. They shall be looking out in search of us. According to them it is we who should be punished but they themselves are trapped in severe punishment in the hell. Our enemies have destroyed both their worldly life and an eternal life due to their enmity. They intended to destroy us but their envy destroyed themselves.”
