Under the guidance of Saiyedna Badruddin Saheb (aq) and by the efforts of Sheth Ibraahimbhai Patel, Badri Masjid was constructed at Worli in Mumbai and its Iftetaah was done on 18th Zilhajj 1360 AH/ 1940 AD. Since then, with the passage of time, the Masjid underwent renovation and repairs several times owing to the climate of Mumbai. But since last 5 years, the ceiling of the Masjid was damaged beyond repair. Even during the early period of Da’wat of Sultaan ul-Waa’ezeen Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna Abu Haatim Taiyeb Ziyauddin saheb (tus), mumineen tried to re-construct the Masjid at the same place but it never materialized. Again an attempt was made few years back but in vain. Mumineen of Mumbai longed for the new and spacious Masjid.
But it was 3 years back when Saheb-e-Da’wat and the trustees of Alavi Cemetery Trust took up the task of constructing the New Masjid vigorously. The Old Masjid was pulled down and the construction of the New Masjid began 3 years back. It’s astonishing that the Masjid was neither constructed when the cost was in thousands nor was it constructed when the cost was in lakhs but the Mumineen of Mumbai saw the New Badri Masjid when the cost of construction ran in to crores. It is indeed the Mo’jizah of Muqaddas Maulaa who did Da’wat for 9 months in Mumbai in 1366 AH. It was around this time that Ibraahimbhai Patel was conferred the title of “Sheth” along with 5 other mumineen. We faced shortage of funds in the construction of the Masjid as we did in the construction of Rozah Mubaarakah. But gradually everything came in its way and the goal was achieved. Major financial contribution in the construction of the Masjid came from the Zenith family in Mumbai. Every mumin donated generously for the Masjid. Mumineen of Vadodara also donated open heartedly.
Grand Iftetaah of Badri Masjid took place on the Dast-e-Mubaarak of Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna Saheb (tus) on 10th Sha’baan ul-Kareem 1435 AH / 8th June 2014, Sunday. A short, sweet and systematic procession with Faatemi Shaan and Taiyebi Jalaal was taken out near Worli before Iftetaah with Band and Crackers. Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) in his Bayaan in the Badri Masjid reminisced the time of Saiyedna Badrddin Saheb (aq) when he undertook the construction of Old Badri Masjid.
“He had emotional and friendly attachment with the mumineen of Mumbai. He stayed here for 9 months when he faced difficult times in Vadodara.”
Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) emphasized that Badri Masjid is the pride of mumineen of Mumbai and an eternal gift of Saiyedna Badruddin Saheb (aq). He reiterated that it is a historic event that,
“I am seeing mumineen of Mumbai and Vadodara together in such a huge crowd gathered in the Iftetaah of Masjid. Alavi Bohras have never witnessed such a crowd in the history. It is the Nooraaniyat and Roohaniyat of the Masjid that has attracted the mumineen of Vadodara in such large numbers. Namaazi-Worshippers are the beauty of Masjid. Though this Masjid is little far away but mumineen should come here for the Namaaz and in future they should plan to relocate their houses nearby the Badri masjid.”
With the Bayaan of Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus), Qaseedah-khwaani, felicitation of the Trustees, awarding the titles of Shaikh, Khidmat and Mulla to the selected mumineen, the Majlis of Iftetaah concluded with the lunch at Zenith Hall. Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) felicitated Miyasaheb Ilyaasbhai Ajabshah, Mohammadbhai Marchawala, Ahmadalibhai Dhelawala etc for their whole hearted and selfless service and khidmat in the construction of the Masjid right from the beginning till the end. After the 'elaan of Waqf and Tahayyat ul-Masjid, Huzoor-e-'Aali (tus) gave razaa to Mazoon Maulaa to lead the Namaaz of Zohr-'Asr in which the huge number of mumineen prayed and took sawaab of Imaamat Namaaz. Different Mulla saheb were ordered to lead the prayer of Fajr everyday and as and when directed.
