“Innama yoreedullaaho le-yuzheba ‘ankomur rijsa ahlal bayte wa yotahherakum tatheera”
Allaah wishes to keep away all the evil and wickedness from Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and purify them in completeness and absoluteness (33:33)

Saiyedna Ali bin S. Mohammad bin Waleed (aq) recounts in his book Taaj ul-Aqaa’id that, A Mustajeeb (an impressible person) who follows the Isma’ili Taiyebi faith – Mazhab-e-Ahl ul-Bayt (as) should know doubtlessly that our Deen (religion) and Imaan (Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as)) itself is Shi’ism (Shi’iyat). It is completely to follow the Sunnat of Rasoolullaah (saws) and to obey his orders and to adhere to the practices of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and the holy progeny Aal-e-Mohammad A’immat-e-Taahereen (as). Shi’ism is in keeping faith in the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) that, “My Ahl ul-Bayt (as) is like the Ark of Maulaana Nooh (as) among you – one who will board it will get Najaat (salvation) while others who did not recognize the Darajah and Martabah (status and significance) of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) will indeed get drown in the storm of ignorance and wickedness.”  He also said that, With the Walaayat of my Ahl ul-Bayt (as), Allaah will bring him back to us, if at all he slips off from the right path in his life and it will guard him from all the evil and viciousness. Allaah says in the Qur’an that, ‘He guides him whom He wishes.’ This guidance is nothing but the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) and Ahl ul-Bayt (as). We are the selected and blessed ones that Allaah has glorified our hearts with the Noor of Walaayat. This Walaayat is a Hasanat (good tidings) for us in this world and after death. It is this Hasanat through which we will get Najaat and Jannat. Let us quote a verse from the Qur’an where Allaah says, “Rabbanaa aatena fid-duniyaa hasanataw wa fil-aakherate hasanatan...”

It has been related from A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) that, Allaah will put hold on the hearts of all creation and no one but Saiyed ul-Ambiyaa Mohammad Rasoolullaah (saws) and Saiyed ul-Wasiyeen Maulaana Ali (as) will free them from their confinement. Hence it is clear that, Rasoolullaah (saws) and Maulaana Ali (as) will be the cause of our Najaat. It  also implies that, Safinat-un-Najaat (ark of salvation) is no one but Maulaana Ali (as) and his progeny from whom the succession of Paak (pious) A’immat-e-taahereen (as) began and will continue till the day of Qayaamat. It is a common sense that, this Safinat-un-Najaat is not only true during the time of Rasoolullaah (saws) but it applies to every period and era  represented by a single Imaam of that time till the day of Qayaamat. Had it been true only for the time of Rasoolullaah (saws) then, only the believers in the time of Rasoolullaah (saws) would deserve Najaat. This would negate the Justice of Allaah which applies to each and every creation. Hence, our succession of A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) is in true sense Safinat-un-Najaat for us, who belong to the progeny of Maulaana Ali (as) and Maulaatana Faatemah (as), and which will continue till the day of Qayaamat. In the Daur us-Satr (the period of concealment of Imaam uz-Zamaan (as)), the succession of Du’aat ul-Akrameen (aq) is Safinat-un-Najaat for us because it is with their Walaayat, that we are able to reach to Imaam uz-Zamaan (as) because Da’i ul-Mutlaq is Naa’ib-e-Imaam uz-Zamaan (representative of Imaam uz-Zamaan (as)) who invites us and ascends us to the recognition of Imaam uz-Zamaan (as). Hence we call ourselves to be blessed and distinguished ones because we have held and grasped the Zaahir (Rasoolullaah (saws) and Qur’an) and Baatin (Maulaana Ali (as) and A’immat-e-Taahereen (as)) of the Deen of Allaah. Have we forgotten the Hadees of Rasoolullaah (saws) in which he states that, “I leave behind two most important and distinguished things (saqalain)among you, Qur’an and my Itrat, Ahl ul-Bayt (as) – one who will grasp these two will never go astray until he will meet me at Hauz-e-Kausar on the day of Qayaamat.”

Rasoolullaah (saws) has also said that, My Ummat (followers) will divide into 73 communities and only one among them will become “Naajiyah” (who will get Najaat-salvation). A question was put up to Rasoolullaah (saws) as to which community is Naajiyah?  To which he replied that, the one who follows me and my Ahl ul-Bayt (as) – who is the progeny of my Wasi Maulaana Ali (as). Allaah Ta’aala has remembered the Shi’a (a group of people on the right path, followers- adherents-disciples of Saheb-e-Nass) in the Qur’an, where He has named the followers of Maulaana Nooh (as) as Shi’a and said that, “Maulaana Ibraahim (as) was the Shi’a of Maulaana Nooh (as).” Allaah Ta’aala also says that we have taken help of those who were Shi’a against the people who were their (Shi’a) enemies.

The word Shi’a is derived from the root, Shaa’a, which means to spread, to divulge or to become known. Rasoolullaah (saws) did Nass-e-Jali on Maulaana Ali (as) by the order of Allaah Ta’aala on the ground of Ghadeer-e-Khumm and appointed him as his Wasi and ‘divulged’ or ‘made public’ among the 70,000 Hujjaaj, the acceptance of the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) obligatory for all. Hence those who obeyed the orders of Rasoolullaah (saws) and had Walaayat and Mohabbat of Maulaana Ali (as) in their hearts were called as Shi’a by him. We shall quote the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) which he spoke innumerable times at various occasions in the presence of his Ashaab-e-Keraam (ra), “Shi’ato Aliyin homul faa’ezoon”, which means, “Shi’a of Ali (as) are victorious.”  Salmaan ul-Faarsi (ra), Ammar bin Yaasir (ra), Miqdaad (ra) and Jaabir bin Abdillaah (ra) were the closest and nearest Ashaab (companions) of Rasoolullaah (saws) who were known as Arba’at-o-Horom. Rasoolullaah (saws) very often used to call them as the true Shi’a of Maulaana Ali (as). Rasoolullaah (saws) used to sense the fragrance and brilliance of the Mohabbat of Maulaana Ali (as) in the hearts and used to call them as the Shi’a. Rasoolullaah (saws) by the command of Allaah Ta’aala bestowed the Ne’mat and favour of the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) on each and every person of the Ummat and invited all to come under its divine shadow and become Shi’a, who as he said, would be victorious. Hence Shi’a existed during the time of Rasoolullaah (saws). It was the group of ignorant and wicked people who belittled and disobeyed the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) and formed groups and claimed themselves to be the ones who follows the Sunnat of Rasoolullaah (saws). What if they offer thousands of rak’ats of Namaaz? What if they go to Hajj for innumerable times? What if they memorize the whole Qur’an? What if they fast for their whole life? Indeed all of their deeds are void and null because they have disobeyed the last words of Rasoolullaah (saws) commanding the obedience of his Wasi and Qaa’im maqaam which was from Allaah Ta’aala and not from himself. Let us quote what Allaah Ta’aala says about them in the Qur’an,

“Kaifa yahdillaaho qauman kafaroo ba’da imaanehim wa-shahedoo annar rasoola haqqun wa-jaa’ahumul baiyenaato wallaaho laa yahdil qaumaz zaalemeen. Olaa’eka jazaa’ohum anna ‘alayhim la’natallaahe wal malaa’ekate wan naase ajma’een”

‘How shall Allaah guide the people who disbelieved after their belief and after they bore witness that Rasoolullaah (saws) is true and after clear proof had come to them? i.e. those disbelievers accepted the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) in front of Rasoolullaah (saws) at the Ghadeer-e-Khumm but opposed of what they accepted after the death of Rasoolullaah (saws), and Allaah does not guide the people who are unjust and wrongdoers. They are those whose reward is the La’nat (curse) of Allaah, His angels and all mankind collectively.’

“Minallazeena farraqoo deenahum wa kaanu sheya’an kullo hizbin bemaa ladayhim farehoon”
‘From those who split up their deen-religion (of the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as)) and got divided into sects (satisfying their evil regards and inventing new things in Shari’at, Bid’at), each one of them happy in that which is with it.’

“Innallazeena farraqoo deenahum wa kaanu sheya’al lasta minhum fee shay’in innama amrohum elallaahe summa yonabbe’ohum bemaa kaanu yaf’aloon”

‘Indeed those who divide their deen-religion into sects, you (Rasoolullaah (saws)) have no concern in them in the least. This affair is only with Allaah, Who will tell them the truth of what they did.’

The essence of the above stated aayaat (verses) point to the people who stood different with their swaying opinions against the single and final order of Allaah Ta’aala and Rasoolullaah (saws). So undoubtedly, their affair is with Allaah, Who will answer them according to their deeds as Allaah says in another verse,

“Summa lananze’anna min kulle shee’atin ayyohum ashaddo ‘alar-rahmaane ‘ateeya”

‘Then indeed We shall drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion (against the command of Allaah) against the Most Gracious.’

“Fareeqan hadaa wa fareeqan haqqa ‘alayhem uz-zalaalato innahom ut-takhazush shayaateena awleyaa’a min doonillaahe wa yahsaboona annahum mohtadoon”

‘A group He has guided and a group which deserved to be in error (ignorance and dark), (because) they took the Shayaateen (devils) as their Awliyaa (religious leaders) instead of Allaah (order of Allaah on Rasoolullaah (saws) to appoint Maulaana Ali (as) as his Wasi and Vicegerent after him) and think that they will receive right guidance?

Maulaana Ali Saheb-e-Zulfiqaar (as) and his progeny is the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) who has established and instituted Deen-e-Haqq after the death of Rasoolullaah (saws) among mumineen. Ahl ul-Bayt (as) are the only inheritors of the Ilm-e-Elaahi (knowledge of Allaah). They are Siraat ul-Mustaqeem and Hablullaah il-Mateen for us. Their Walaayat and Mohabbat is the cause of Najaat for us and their enmity and hatred is the cause of burning in the Fire of Jahannam (Hell). Those who have grasped them will never deviate from the truth and those who turned their back from them will never ever be able to reach the truth.

Rasoolullaah (saws) has said that, “One of the communities of my Ashaab (companions) will be trembling and shivering when they will meet me at Hauz-e-Kausar. Looking at their condition I will complain to Allaah that, they are my Ashaab, they are my Ashaab! Then Allaah will reply me from the skies that, O Rasoolullaah (saws) doubtlessly, these are the people who fabricated your words and misrepresented the status of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) to the people, after your death. I will then plead to Allaah to take them far away from my eyes. Allaah will then say that these were the people who repeatedly heard the status of your Ahl ul-Bayt (as) from you but they overlooked your words after your death. Shi’ism, therefore, is the love and obedience of Rasoolullaah (saws) and his progeny.”

Rasoolullaah (saws) has said that, a person will be raised with the thing which he had grasped in his life.  As per the words of Rasool-e-Kareem (saws) and the command of Allaah we have grasped the Walaayat and Mohabbat of Maulaana Ali (as) and his Ahl ul-Bayt (as), then surely, Allaah will raise and ascend us to the Heavens because of it. It is indisputable that Nabi-e-Kareem (saws) has informed and mandated us of the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) and A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) and he has talked about its reward. He has also encouraged us to obey and follow the one who has faith and Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as). This is the reason that we firmly believed in the Walaayat of A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) who are his furookh i.e. descendents, children and offspring. Hence we are the righteous and staunch followers of the Deen-e-Elaahi (religion of Allaah) and we are the Shi’a in true sense.

There are innumerable Ahaadees-e-Nabawi (Pl. of Hadees, sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws)) and Aayaat-e-Kareemah (verses of the Qur’an) exalting and glorifying the martabah of Ahl ul-Bayt (as).  Rasoolullaah (saws) has said to Maulaana Ali (as) that,

  • ‘O Ali, he will not have your Walaayat but a mumin, and he will not have your enmity, but a hypocrite.’
  • ‘He, who has loved Ali, has indeed loved me and he, who has kept enmity for Ali, has indeed disobeyed me and he, who has misbehaved with Ali, has misbehaved with me.’
  • 'Ali does not need truth but truth needs Ali and Ali is not with truth but truth is, wherever Ali is.’
  • 'Ali is from me and I am from Ali.’
  • ‘I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its door. Hence anyone who wishes to enter my city of knowledge (wants to gain the divine knowledge) will have to do so from its door i.e. he will have to keep Walaayat and Mohabbat of Maulaana Ali (as) otherwise he will never be able to gain the glory of true knowledge of Allaah. Allaah has guarded His knowledge with the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) and Ahl ul-Bayt (as), hence only he who is guided and blessed by Allaah will be able to acquire it.

Nabiyullaah (saws) has also stated that, ‘Hasan and Husain (as) are Imaama-e-Haqqin (Imaams of truth) and the martabah of their father (Maulaana Ali (as)) is higher than them and Faatema (as) is the part of me i.e. biz’at wa bizaa’at.’ Allaah Ta’aala had commanded Rasoolullaah (saws) to send a person from his Ahl ul-Bayt to recite Surat ut-Taubah (Surat ul-Bar’at) among the people of Makkaah; and no one but Maulaana Ali (as) was sent by Rasoolullaah (saws). It is evident from all the sayings and Ahaadees-e-nabawi that the martabah and darajah which Maulaana Ali (as), Maulaatana Faatema (as), Imaam Hasan (as) and Imaam Husain (as) had near Rasoolullaah (saws) was not shared by anyone else. Is it possible that anyone else be instituted or included in the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) or in Khamsat ul-Athaar (as)? When Aayat ut-Tatheer, “Innama yoreedullaaho le-yuzheba ‘ankomur rijsa ahlal bayte wa yotahherakum tatheera”, was revealed on Rasoolullaah (saws), Maulaatana Umm-e-Salamah (zaujah – wife of Rasoolullaah (saws)) and Maulaana Salmaan ul-Faarsi (ra) were present nearby, but Rasoolullaah (saws) did not call them to sit on Chaadar-e-Tatheer (pure robe) except Maulaana Ali (as), Maulaatana Faatema (as), Imaam Hasan (as) and Imaam Husain (as). It was a clear message from Allaah that no one except them and their progeny are the Ahl ul-Bayt (as). Is the Deen of a person complete, who does not regard or accept Ali, Faatema, Hasan, Husain (as) as Ahl ul-Bayt (as) of Rasoolullaah (saws)? Can he be called as a follower of the Deen of Allaah; who has partially and incompletely obeyed the words of Rasoolullaah (saws)? Nothing more than a hint is sufficient for an intellectual!

Look at the word of "Deen" and think what it conveys. The alphabet ‘Daal’ of Deen is of Mohammad (saws); the ‘Yaa’ of Deen is of Maulaana Ali (as); and the ‘Noon’ of Deen is of Imaam Hasan (as) and Imaam Husain (as). They all together form the Deen of Allaah in true sense and undoubtedly, he who has left anyone of them has left the Deen of Allaah itself. The core and the essence of Shi’ism is the Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) and his progeny, A’immat-e-Taahereen (as). This is the true Imaan (faith). The verse, “Al-yauma akmalto lakum deenakum...” was revealed at Ghadeer-e-Khumm for the completion of this Imaan and nothing else. The Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) is the zenith and acme of the Imaan and the Deen of Allaah attains completion because of it.

Alas! Majority of people turned away their face from the truth and righteous path and deviated from it. They disobeyed the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) and fell prey to wickedness and evil. They ascended those people to the higher ranks and status that had misbehaved with and belittled the darajah of Ahl ul-Bayt (as). Their hearts have been darkened with the cloak of ignorance and they have lost their destiny. Respecting the martabah of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) was far away but they didn’t even refrain from abusing them on the Mimbar of (pulpit) Rasoolullaah (saws). We seek refuge of rehmat-e-ilaahi from such people who considered such wicked people as their religious leaders and followed them blindly. They claimed themselves to be the member of the house of Rasoolullaah (saws) and manipulated as well as doctored his sayings. How could their false and fictitious claims ever endure the test of truth and legibility? Indeed fallacy is evident from their character and conduct, in the past and present, and will continue to show off till the Last Day.  With the grace of Allaah, truth will always be superior to the fallacy and will continue to shake its foundations, as Allaah says in the Qur’an,

“Waqul jaa’al haqqo wa zahaqal baatelo innal baatela kaana zahooqa”

‘And say, truth (Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as)) has come and falsehood (Baatil, the usurpers of the darajah of Maulaana Ali (as)) has vanished, surely, Baatil is ever bound to vanish.’

“Fasbir inna wa’dallaahe haqqun walaa yastakhiffannakal lazeena laa yooqenoon”

‘So be patient (O Rasoolullaah (saws)), verily, the promise of Allaah is true, and don’t let them discourage you, who certainly have no faith (imaan), from conveying the messages of Allaah.’

“Walaa talbesul haqqa bil baatele wa taktomul haqqa wa antum ta’lamoon”

‘And don’t cover truth (of Walaayat of Maulaana Ali (as)) with falsehood (the wrong faith of the people) nor conceal the truth while you know it. (reveal the truth about the martabah of Maulaana Ali (as) to the people if you know it, to the people)’

We have grasped the Siraat ul-Mustaqeem and Hablullaahil Mateen (Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and A’immat-e-Taahereen (as)) and completed our Imaan and accomplished the basics of Shi’at-e-Ali. Others have followed the footsteps of Taaghoot (evil) and reserved their destiny like the communities of previous Prophets (as) on whom Allaah sent His curse because of their wrong deeds.
